Hello GAPP Participants! Just a reminder that your grant applications are due on Wednesday, December 16th. Make sure that the teacher doing your recommendations are aware of the grant deadline.
If you have not sent in your student profile to both Frau Thomae and me, it is imperative that you do so.
Also, please make sure you are all applying for passports if you do not have them yet! We will need your passport number at the end of February to give to Icelandair!
Parents: Please make sure you complete your official documents, make sure the proper documents are notarized, and return as soon as possible!
6. November 2015
Just a quick reminder that the German Exchange Meeting has been moved from November 12, 2015 to November 17, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in room 222. This meeting is mandatory for both parents and students.
Since its inception in 1972, the German American Partnership Program (GAPP) has developed into the most successful short-term exchange program between the United States and Germany.
GAPP was greatly expanded in 1982 and 1983. As a result of financial participation from the American as well as from the German side, the program received a stimulus which has been sustained to this very day. The number of school partnerships has increased from 150 in the early days to almost 800 today. Up to now, more than 300,000 students have participated in GAPP.
Grüsse! Here, you will be able to find all the information you need regarding our 2014 exchange on this page. Check back from time to time for new updates! Please scroll to the end to see latest posts!
CHECK YOUR EMAIL FREQUENTLY as I will be sending updates regularly as we move forward. I sent one today.

Just a reminder from our last meeting:
I hope everyone is doing well. We will have our next meeting on March 5th at 6:15 in the conference room at HHS. Please be sure you bring along a copy of your passport information: when you open your passport, you should copy the first 2 pages with your vital information. I need to submit the info for the flights mid-March, so please make sure you bring the copy along.
Also, for those of you who still owe the last $500 payment, please make sure you submit the payment by Wednesday night. If you received grant money last week, you may just deduct that amount from your $1500. The grant money will be used for their travel and will be sent right to the German Exchange Trip account. The final $500 payment is due March 14th, for planning purposes.
Also Frau Dr. Margalit asks that you do the following as a stipulation of your grant money. Here is what she asks in the award email:
As I mentioned in my initial mail on the topic of individual grants, each of the students who will receive an individual grant has to submit a report after the exchange experience AND I am also asking each parent and/or you on their behalf to contact your congressional representative an let her/him know about the grants your students are receiving and telling him/her about your GAP-Program so that GAPP can continue receiving a grant from the US Department of State, Bureau of Cultural and Educational Affairs.
I also ask that everyone please submit a thank you note to Frau Margalit and the GAPP Board of Directors for the grant money received as soon as possible. I have already submitted one from HHS:

Mrs. Stemmler has put together a tagging schedule for all exchange participants. The link to the form is below. Please respond as soon as possible. We must have 2 students and a chaperone (someone who will stay with the students). Let’s raise more money! You are doing really well!
14. April 2014
As you know, Haverhill Foundation for Excellence in Education provided us with $1000 grant for our students to put toward tuition for their participation in the exchange. They have asked us to put together a German Exchange Team! Let’s see if we can get a table together to help raise funds for next year’s HFEE award recipients! Pay it forward! Please open the link below to read about the event. If you are interested in participating, please email me and I can organize a table. We just need 8 people! If we end up with more, we could have 2 tables!

Reminders as we get closer to departure!
Hope everyone is getting prepared for our departure on the 19th! This email is an important reminder regarding our blog which is a required portion of our grant from GAPP. An invitation went out to everyone the evening of our last meeting and all students had been asked to accept the invitation to the WordPress site. As of today at 1:30, nobody has responded. Mr. Lienhard has resent the invitations to each of you and it is important that you accept the invitations to the blogs asap. This is the blog that you will be documenting your experiences on on a daily basis. The blog link will be shared with Dr. Margalit, the GAPP Director, with Ms. Kitsos, Mr. Martin, and your parents to keep them updated. Parents, please make sure your students complete this step.
The second thing that you need to do is download the WordPress app (it is free) for whatever device you are bringing to Germany. If you have a smart phone, download the app on that. If you have an iPad, you can use the app for IPads. If you are not bringing a smart phone or iPad, there will be computers to use at Gymnasium Neureut and at your homes. You should check with your families and see if a computer will be available during your stay. This should not be an issue…let me know if it is.
Also, by the end of tomorrow, your assignment for the GAPP project will be shared with you in the form of a google powerpoint and a google doc. I will also provide you with a paper copy of the assignment at school. Please open the shared document and assignment as soon as you receive it.
I just received an email today stating that we had a slight change in departure time from 9:00 pm to 8:45 pm. The flight number and tickets remain the same. Regarding our departure time on June 19th from HHS, we will all meet at the Thinker at 4:30 pm for a 5:00 pm departure to Logan! Very excited that things are so close now!
Please also be communicating with your exchange students! You should be emailing each other and getting to know each other. If anyone is having trouble contacting their partner, let me know. Students should also be thinking of gifts for their families. Remember, it is the thoughtfulness of the gift, not the price, that is important.
See you all very soon! Bis bald!
